BANDITS yesterday night raided Madabanciya village in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State, abducting a newlywed husband and wife.
Ibrahim Sani, an area resident, revealed that the bandits arrived in the village on foot at 11.45 p.m. yesterday, leaving their motorcycles outside.
Sani revealed that the robbers, who were in huge numbers, were armed with modern weapons and began shooting indiscriminately as soon as they arrived in the area to intimidate locals.
According to him, the bandits moved from house to house in quest of food and other valuables.
He said, “They stole a significant number of animals, food stuff, and other valuables.
“In the process of going round the village, they came across a newly married couple and took them to the forest.”
Despite the state’s security issues, Sani stated that no security agents were stationed in the community to protect people’s lives and property.
He urged the government to send security personnel to the region, stating that “if something is not done on time, we will be forced to relocate to other locations.”
ASP Yazid Abubakar, the State Police Public Relations Officer, could not be reached for comment at the time this story was sent.
The state administration, on its part, has finalized plans to deploy its Community Protection Guards next Wednesday.
They will be sent to their respective areas to assist security forces in the fight against banditry.
Over the last few months, Zamfara has been subjected to frequent bandit attacks, resulting in the deaths of several people and the kidnapping of many more.
In December 2023, bandits stormed Zurmi town, the seat of the state’s Zurmi LGA, killing one person, injuring two others, and kidnapping 15 more.
In November 2023, four settlements in Maru LGA were abandoned after 110 people were kidnapped by bandits for refusing to pay levy to a reputed bandit king.
