THE Super Eagles of Nigeria will play world champions Argentina in a friendly match in March this year, it has been confirmed.
The Argentina FA announced the proposed friendly overnight, stating that it will be played in China at a yet-to-be-confirmed date in March.
The Lionel Messi-led world champions will play the three-time African champions at the Olympics Sports Centre Stadium in Hangzhou, China.
While the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to confirm the match, the Argentina FA announced that it reached agreement with a Chinese corporation for the friendlies.
Messi and his teammates will also play Cote d’Ivoire during that international window, the Argentina FA added.
Nigeria and Argentina have met several times, with the Super Eagles’ only victories coming in friendlies.
The South Americans beat the African giants at the 1994, 2002, 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups, remarkably all by one-goal margins.
Overall, the two teams have met nine times, with Argentina winning six times and one match ending in a draw.
