AN operative of the Ebonyi State Police Command patrol team was killed by suspected gunmen on Ngbo-Effium Road in the state’s Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
The Ebonyi State’s Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, verified this in a press statement issued today.
He added that agents were ambushed by armed individuals driving an ash-colored Toyota Sienna with an unknown registration number.
According to Ukandu, the officers attacked the hoodlums, and in the resulting gunfight, one police officer was murdered, while another was injured and is currently undergoing medical care at a hospital.
He stated that Augustina Ogbodo, Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, has dispatched tactical teams to the scene to track down the hoodlums.
Meanwhile, quiet and normalcy have returned to the neighbourhood.
The Commissioner called on well-meaning persons in the state to provide the Command with beneficial information that can lead to the arrest of the fleeing hoodlums, assuring them of the Command’s unflinching commitment to the protection of lives and property in the state.
