JUSTICE Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to dismiss the terrorism charges against Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor.
Justice Olajuwon ruled that Ehie, who was previously the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, did not have the legal authority to request the dismissal of the charges.
The judge further agreed with the Inspector General of Police’s counsel that Ehie could not make any application until he appeared in court to enter his plea for the terrorism charges.
Despite Ehie’s arguments through his lawyer, Oluwole Aladedoye, that the court lacked jurisdiction and that he had not been formally accused by the police, the judge dismissed his request and advised him to either surrender to the police or appear in court to enter a plea before making any further applications.
The charges also involved five other defendants (Chime Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja ThankGod) accused of committing terrorism offenses related to the destruction and burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly during a political crisis in Port Harcourt.
