A petroleum products dealer, Sesan Adelabu, located in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, allegedly macheted his wife, Bolu Adelabu, to death yesterday at their home in the city’s Alagbaka GRA neighbourhood.
Following the killing, Adelabu, also known as Emirate, reportedly took his own life by consuming a poisonous substance, suspected to be an insecticide.
The Special Protection Unit officer from the A Division Station in Akure, who was stationed near his residence, received a distress call from the deceased’s son yesterday evening who said he had been trying to reach his father on the phone without success.
Upon entering the house, the officer found Adelabu’s lifeless body in the toilet and his wife’s body on the bed with multiple machete wounds, alongside an empty bottle of insecticide on the floor. The police have since removed the bodies of Adelabu and his wife to the mortuary.
A statement from the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident.
She noted that the State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, has directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case.
Omisanya mentioned that an investigation has been initiated to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic event and that the area has been sealed off to allow the police to conduct their investigations.
As of the time of this report, no family member of the deceased couple has commented on the incident.
