THE AFCON 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Cote d’Ivoire’s Elephants in Abijdan tonight will be shown live on television in 173 territories across the world, making it by far the most-watched edition in the history of the competition, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has stated.
This, according to the continental ruling body, once again re-affirms the competition’s global appeal.
The final will be broadcast in 54 African countries, the majority of Europe, Asia, Middle East, South America, North America, the Caribbean and South Pacific.
“Leading the global broadcasters are CAF’s traditional partners, beIN Sport (MENA, Europe, America, South Pacific), Canal+ and New World TV. Other international broadcasters that will show the competition include Sky Sport, BBC, Ziggo, OKKO, Sport Digital, ViaPlay, Sport Italia, A1, SuperSport, Sport5,” CAF noted.
“Sport TV Portugal, LaLiga+, Sport Klub, SABC, Azam Media, AfroSport, Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation, SNRT, FanCode, BandTV and many others.”
The opening ceremony at the Alassane Outtara Stadium, which will feature some global music stars, will start at 7.40pm Nigerian time, with the final proper to kick off at 9pm at the same venue.
“More investment has been made in TV production to improve the viewer experience. For the first time, more than 33 cameras will be used for the final,” CAF explained.
The Super Eagles defeated the Elephants 1-0 through William Troost-Ekong’s penalty when the two teams met in the group stages just over three weeks ago.
While hosts Cote d’Ivoire are in the hunt for their third AFCON trophy after success in 1992 and 2015, Nigeria are looking to add a fourth title to the three they won in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
