SUPER Eagles star Calvin Bassey has claimed that his Fulham side ‘wanted it more’ in Saturday’s English Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria defender and his compatriot Alex Iwobi scored both Fulham goals as they stunned a poor United side 2-1 at the hallowed ground.
Bassey fired Fulham ahead from a corner midway through the second half, but Harry Maguire scored an 89th-minute equaliser to give United hope.
Fulham rallied and deservedly netted the winning goal when Iwobi finished off a brilliant counter-attack in the 97th minute.
It was Fulham’s first Premier League win at Old Trafford in 21 years and Manchester United’s 10th league defeat of the season.
“I don’t think you can just come here and overrun them. You can see the quality of the players they have,” Bassey said.
“They have got top players and a top manager and players that can have an effect off the bench, but we were just at it more and I felt we wanted it more. That showed in the way we played.”
Fulham arrived at Old Trafford with the second worst away form in the Premier League and United were on a run of four straight wins in the competition.
But Bassey insisted that his side had no doubts about their ability to win the game as they thoroughly outplayed the hosts.
“Of course we had belief,” he added.
“If you saw the last games we played, even the one we played at home [against United] when we lost right at the end, it was just the details and making sure we got the details right. It worked out for us, thank God.”
