NPFL: Remo Stars pip Enyimba, Rangers hold Pillars as 3SC clinch away win

REMO Stars defeated champions Enyimba 1-0 while Enugu Rangers secured a 1-1 draw away to Kano Pillars in the two headline fixtures in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) today.

Adams Olamilekan scored the only goal of the tense encounter in Ikenne in the 71st minute to take Remo Stars to fourth spot in the table, ahead of Enyimba on goal difference.

In Kano, Sani Mubarak gave the hosts the lead in the 30th minute but Chinemerem Ugwueze pulled the in-form Rangers level seven minutes into the second half.

The resurgent Rangers are third, ahead of both Remo Stars and Enyimba on goal difference, while Kano Pillars are sixth, four points adrift.

Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, also known as 3SC, secured the only away win of the day by beating Doma United 1-0 in Pantami, Gombe State.

Monday Gideon netted for 3SC just before half-time and they held on to earn the victory that took them to seventh in the table as once high-riding Doma United slipped to 12th.

Lobi Stars tightened their grip on the top position with a 3-2 victory at home to Rivers United.

Samuel Tiza, Alao Danbani and Kumaga Suur struck for the league leaders as they fended off the visitors from Port Harcourt, who are 16th but with three games in hand due to their progress to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

There were also victories today for Sunshine Stars (1-0 over Katsina United), Heartland (2-0 over South East rivals Abia Warriors), Akwa United (3-1 over Bendel Insurance), second-placed Plateau United (4-0 over bottom team Gombe United) and Niger Tornadoes (1-0 over Sporting Lagos).
