SUPER Eagles of Nigeria pair Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey stood out for Fulham tonight as they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 in their English Premier League clash at Craven Cottage.
Although Iwobi was not on the score sheet, he was at the heart of every Fulham move and posted a man-of-the-match performance in the big win, creating four chances as Rodrigo Muniz scored twice.
Bassey starred in central defence for Marco Silva’s side as they became the first team this season to stop Spurs from scoring in the Premier League.
The result struck a blow to Spurs’ top four ambitions as they remain fifth, two points behind Aston Villa, with Fulham 12th, one point behind Chelsea.
It was not a good evening for another Super Eagles star, however, as Frank Onyeka and his Brentford side were beaten 2-1 at relegation threatened Burnley.
Onyeka lasted 59 minutes as Brentford had to play most of the match with 10 men after Sergio Reguilon was sent off in the ninth minute.
Burnley remain second from bottom after the rare win, while Brentford are 15th, just four points clear of the relegation zone.
Also in the Premier League today, Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw by Luton Town in a match that would have featured three Super Eagles players but for injuries.
Forest were without Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, while new Super Eagles invitee Gabriel Osho missed out for Luton Town, who needed an 89th minute Luke Berry intervention to snatch one point.
Luton Town are 18th in the table, occupying the third relegation spot, with Forest 17th, three points clear.
In the second-tier Championship, on-loan Watford returnee Emmanuel Dennis scored the only goal as the Hornets defeated Birmingham 1-0.
The Super Eagles forward struck in the 44th minute to earn former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverly a debut victory as Watford’s interim manager.
Watford are in 13th place in the table, safe from relegation but nowhere near the promotion play-offs places, while Birmingham City are 21st, only out of the relegation spots on goal difference.
