FROM Convent to the movie industry, Nollywood actress Blessing Patrick has successfully built a blooming career, even against her parent’s wish. Today, they are her biggest fans as she expands her coast to produce different movies.
In a recent interview, Ms Patrick shared her journey from the Convent to movie-making.
She said: “I was an entertainer in my primary and secondary school. I attended a missionary school and would’ve been a reverend sister. I came from a military background because my dad was a military man and my mum, a businesswoman and a lawyer. I’m the first out of 3 children in my family.”
“My mum was like a Mafia. People get scared of talking to me because they don’t know what the outcome would be. So, I left the barracks after my primary school because I attended a boarding school and from there, I went to the convent. So, I didn’t really have that opportunity of been exposed while in the barracks. As I was the only child before my siblings came, my mom was very strict with me.”
Speaking on sexual harassment in Nollywood, the Thespian said, “Sexual harassment is very rampant these days. It is one’s ability to run away from it that matters. In my own point of view, I’d say that in any space at all that contains people of opposite sex, there’s a high probability of having cases of sexual harassment there. In life generally, women have the appeal that opens doors for them when compared with the men. I believe that God blessed women with the gift of attracting favours naturally. Personally, there are times I’d be in my house and people would just call me and dash me money. I quote “in every industry, God has made women to have this appeal that attracts favor to them naturally even if they don’t work for it”. To be honest, I can’t tell you specifically that it’s the jobs they do that establish them.”
