CHELSEA were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Burnley and Fulham, with Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey starting, came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 at Sheffield United in a dramatic afternoon of English Premier League fixtures today.
In other games in the English top flight today, Tottenham Hotspur overcame a 1-0 deficit to beat Luton Town 2-1, Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 at home to Crystal Palace and Newcastle United fought back from 3-1 down to beat West Ham 4-3 in the early kick-off.
At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea looked to be cruising to victory against the relegation battling Burnley when Cole Palmer scored a controversial 44th minute penalty for the Blues after Lorenz Assignon was given a second yellow card and sent off for a foul in the box on Mykhailo Mudryk.
Vincent Kompany, the Burnley manager, was also sent off for his reaction to what he felt was an unjust decision.
Burnley levelled for Burnley two minutes into the second half through Josh Cullen but Chelsea regained their lead with Palmer’s 13th goal of the season in the 78th minute.
The 10 men refused to back down though and they equalised for the second time as Dara O’Shea struck eight minutes from time to earn a valuable point.
Burnley are second from bottom, four points from safety, while Chelsea are in a lowly 11th place.
At Bramall Lane, Bobby Decordova-Reid netted in the 86th minute and Rodrigo Muniz scored in stoppage time as Fulham earned a 3-3 draw against bottom side Sheffield United.
Super Eagles defender Bassey played all 90 minutes for Fulham while midfielder Iwobi was on for 74 minutes for the side in 12th spot.
In the battle for UEFA Champions League spots, Tottenham Hotspur needed an 86th minute goal from Heung-min Son to turn things around and win 2-1 at home to 18th-placed Luton Town.
With the three points, Spurs rose above Aston Villa to fourth spot on goal difference, with Villa taking on Wolves tonight.
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina made his first start since the Africa Cup of Nations for Nottingham Forest and stayed on for 84 minutes as they played a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace.
Still without the injured Taiwo Awoniyi, Forest went behind to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s 11th minute strike before Chris Wood headed them level around the hour mark.
Forest, who had four points deducted for financial breaches, are 17th, just out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
