THE Rivers State House of Assembly has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of dishonesty and threatened to resume impeachment procedures if he continues to violate the constitution.

The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, stated this today during a news briefing in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

Amaewhule, who was accompanied by 26 Assembly members, read from a statement released following the briefing.

The lawmakers accused the governor of failing to uphold his end of the Presidential Peace Accord, which he willingly signed without coercion.

Furthermore, they explained that they withdrew their impeachment notice against Governor Fubara out of respect for President Tinubu and in the hope that the governor would reconsider.

The lawmakers, on the other hand, promised to resume the impeachment procedures if Governor Fubara continued to commit what they saw as repeated constitutional violations.

They emphasized that if the governor continued to commit “constant Constitutional breaches,” they would reopen the impeachment procedure against him.

They accused the group of lying against Nyesome Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who they said fought relentlessly for President Tinubu and Fubara’s win.

They stated that Rivers State was the only one without an Appropriation Law, and that the governor had abandoned the state’s laws.

“They must not forget that the Rivers State House of Assembly has the mandate of the people and that we swore an oath of allegiance to the Constitution to do the needful, including the Impeachment of the Governor as a last resort. So, if it becomes a last resort, in accordance with the law, we will not hesitate to do so because no individual is bigger than Rivers State, including the governor,” the members threatened.

They however, assured the people of the state of their commitment to stand up for them and urged the people to remain prayerful against what they described as tyranny and dictatorship in the state.
