ANGRY youths from Angwan Rukuba in the Nabor Gwong community, also known as Eto Baba in Plateau State’s Jos North Local Government region, went on a rampage today, trashing and burning the possessions of a farmer who lives in the region in response to the reported killing of his employee.

An eyewitness in the village stated that the event began in the early hours of today when a theft was reported at a chicken farm in the area.

Rather than hand over the suspect who is the security guard at the farm to security agents, the suspect was manhandled by the owners leading to his death.

The irate youths in the town then went to the farm, which housed roughly 5,000 birds, plundered the hens and eggs, and demolished the structures.

The event spiraled out of hand when disgruntled youths gathered at the poultry owner’s home a few metres from the farm and confronted him for using self-defense.

The intervention of security personnel exacerbated the situation when a tear gas canister struck the community youth leader, causing the furious youths to set fire to the house and two vehicles.

Though the community youth leader is recovering in the hospital, Emmanuel Samson, the secretary of the community’s security outfit, described how the farm and house were damaged.

The farm owner and his family were brought into police custody for their own protection.
