LIVERPOOL defeated Sheffield United 3-1 at Anfield tonight to regain top spot in the English Premier League while Chelsea won a dramatic encounter 4-3 against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo scored the goals for Liverpool that took them back above Arsenal to the top of the table.

Uruguay striker Nunez opened the scoring against the league’s bottom side in the 17th minute, blocking goalkeeper Ivo Grbic’s attempted clearance into the Sheffield United net.

Sheffield United pulled level 13 minutes after the break as Conor Bradley put the ball into his own net, but Mac Allister restored Liverpool’s lead with a screamer in the 76th minute.

Gakpo wrapped up the win in the 90th minute as Liverpool moved two points clear of second-placed Arsenal in the table.

At Stamford Bridge, struggling giants Chelsea and Manchester United shared seven goals in an error-strewn clash which the hosts won at the death, with Cole Palmer hitting a hat-trick.

Chelsea coasted to a 2-0 lead in the first 19 minutes, Conor Gallagher shooting them ahead in the fourth minute and Palmer doubling the lead from the penalty spot.

United then responded, as Alejandro Garnacho netted twice and Bruno Fernandes also struck to give them a 3-2 lead.

The visitors were almost running away with the win until Diogo Dalot gave away a second penalty in added time, which Palmer converted 10 minutes into stoppage time.

Chelsea and Palmer were not done, as the England forward found himself in space from a corner kick and fired home via a Scott McTominay deflection in the 11th minute of stoppage time to complete his hat-trick.

With the result, Chelsea moved past Bournemouth and Wolves into 10th place while United stay in the sixth position.
