PARIS Saint-Germain have got their noses in front in the race for Victor Osimhen’s signature, getting ahead of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, according to reports in Italy.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria striker is currently contracted to Napoli but there are strong indications he will leave the Serie A champions in a big move this summer.
Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport reported today that French champions PSG are ‘getting closer’ to Osimhen’s €130m release clause as they see the Nigeria international as the ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is set to join Real Madrid.
Osimhen, 25, recently signed a contract extension at Napoli until 2026, but it includes a €130m clause and the club are ready to cash in on the 2022/2023 Serie A top scorer at the end of the season.
The Super Eagles star joined Napoli from Lille in September 2020 for around €80m and has 72 goals and 18 assists in 126 appearances for them, netting 26 goals last season as they won their first Scudetto in 33 years.
Il Corriere dello Sport also recalled that PSG and Napoli completed several deals in the past, with Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani moving to Paris in 2012 and 2013, respectively, for a combined €95m transfer fee, while Fabian Ruiz signed for the Ligue 1 giants in 2022 for €23m.
The sports newspaper also claimed Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are closely monitoring Osimhen, but PSG are currently favourites to sing the Super Eagles star.
