THE Katsina State Police Command announced that it had neutralized five suspected bandits, rescued over 100 kidnapped victims, and recovered 658 rustled livestock from March 1 to 31.
During the review period, 51 cases of significant crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, culpable killings, and livestock rustling, were documented, with 30 cases being charged in court.
In a news briefing conducted at the Command Headquarters yesterday, Police Spokesman ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu stated that 64 individuals had been apprehended in connection with these crimes.
He explained that 9 suspected armed robbers, 11 murder suspects, 29 suspected rapists, and 19 suspects were detained for a variety of offences, including criminal force, intimidation, inciting unrest, theft, and membership in a gang of brigands, among others.
On March 21, 2024, at around 2300 hrs, the authorities successfully apprehended Muhammed Halliru, Mohammed Nuhu, and Hamza Bala in connection with a suspected case of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery in Malumfashi. The suspects, armed with weapons, robbed a couple of their phones. One of the arrested suspects confessed to the crime and implicated the other two accomplices. Two cell phones were recovered, and the investigation is ongoing.
Additionally, Mubashir Ibrahim and Aliyu Ibrahim were arrested for suspected criminal conspiracy and motorcycle theft in Daura and Katsina.
They were caught with a stolen motorcycle and could not explain how they obtained it. It was later discovered that they had stolen the motorcycle from a house in Daura and were attempting to sell it in Niger Republic. Efforts are underway to apprehend another suspect involved in the case.
