AN Army Lieutenant was reportedly killed by an Improvised Explosive Device, with four others sustaining injuries, during an ambush at Magza, a community bordering the Damaturu-Biu Road in Borno State last Friday.

The troops, part of the 135 Special Forces Battalion Buratai in Borno, were patrolling towards Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, when they were attacked by suspected insurgents.

According to a reliable Army source, only one officer lost his life in the ambush, while the injured soldiers are currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed health facility in Damaturu.

Following swift reinforcement from the 135 Special Forces Battalion Buratai and the 27 Task Force Brigade headquarters in Buni Yadi, the troops successfully repelled the attack and recovered an AK-47 rifle with magazines and ammunition from the attackers.

The military has not yet issued a statement on the incident, and when reached for comment, Captain Muhammad Shehu, a spokesperson for the Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai in Damaturu, stated that he would provide further information once he has details of the attack.
