The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Murtala Muhammed Airport Ikeja Command, bolstered its revenue generation figure by 117 percent in the first quarter of 2024 when compared to the corresponding year of 2023.
According to information released by the Area Controller in charge of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Yusuf, the Command has collected N45,232,483,528 compared to N21,362,752,676.44 it recorded in the corresponding period of 2023.
Yusuf disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Command’s conference room on Monday, April 8. He stated that the command recorded an appreciable increase of 117.7 percent and similarly performed excellently in its anti-smuggling drive which led to the interception of 50 pieces of 9mm live ammunitions which was discovered in a joint examination conducted by the Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The CAC explained that the number of siezures by the command during the period includes 1,164kg sea cucumbers, 58kg of donkey genitals and 17 packages of Tramadol. He added that the cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the aforementioned items stood at N5,794,099,371.119.
Yusuf further explained that all the seized items contravened some of the provisions of extant laws as enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCS Act) 2023.
He attributed the success to the managerial skill he displayed by engaging stakeholders in the Command to open-door policy and through this, the Command could resolved a lot of issues of common interest with concerned stakeholders.
The Customs Comptroller showed appreciation to the critical stakeholders, sister agencies and the media for their collaborative efforts and synergy while carrying out their statutory mandate in the command, the state and the country.
He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashiru Adewale Adeniyi and the NCS management team for their continued support. Yusuf also commented officers and men of the command, urging them to remain focused and steadfast in the discharge their assigned responsibilities.
