OFFICERS from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) today, rescued a driver and five others following an accident where a truck carrying food items overturned while traveling from the expressway towards the Ojota area of Lagos.
The statement, signed by the Agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, revealed that the accident involving an unregistered Volvo truck occurred early this morning.
The individuals involved in the crash included the truck driver and five passengers, including three women.
Taofiq reported that LASTMA officials successfully rescued the severely injured truck driver and the five passengers from the accident site.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver lost control of the truck at high speed due to brake failure.
Zebra Bakare Akanbi, stationed at Zone 11, Ojota/Fadeyi, confirmed that the rescue operation was carried out with the support of security personnel.
The injured driver and passengers were promptly handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) for medical attention.
Key members of the LASTMA rescue team, including Hakeem Adeosun, the Director of Traffic Incidents, Event Monitoring, Enforcement, and Compliance, were present at the scene.
The overturned truck was later removed from the accident site by LASTMA personnel to ensure smooth traffic flow towards Ojota from the expressway.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare Oki, expressed sympathy for the injured persons and stressed the importance of vehicle safety.
He urged all motorists, especially heavy truck drivers, to prioritize safety checks before embarking on journeys within or outside the state.
