AS ROMA have announced that Evan Ndicka can return to action days after he collapsed on the pitch during a Serie A match.

The Cote d’Ivoire centre-back, who helped his country win the AFCON 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil in February, went down off the ball during Roma’s Serie A match against Udinese on April 14 and was rushed to the hospital, with the game abandoned amid concerns for his well-being.

Initial tests suggested that Ndicka, 24, did not suffer a heart attack and further examinations confirmed that he had avoided any cardiac issues, instead suffering from a collapsed left lung. He was released from hospital the following day.

Roma stated today that Ndicka has been given a clean bill of health following a round medical tests, and as such is eligible to resume sporting activity.

“The player Evan Ndicka underwent a series of cardiologic and third level pulmonary tests at the Villa Stuart FIFA medical centre,” Roma stated on their official website.

“Tests conducted confirmed the absence of cardiac pathologies and the healing of the minimal pneumothorax that occurred during the match in Udine.

“The player is therefore fit for resuming sports activity that will be monitored in the following days.”

Ndicka is expected to return to training in the coming days and could be part of the match squad for the Serie A fixture against Victor Osimhen’s Napoli on Sunday.
