NIGERIA Football Federation president Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has been on a mini-tour of Europe to visit injured and recuperating Super Eagles players.
The NFF says Gusau has been in Europe in the past few days visiting some of the players, including Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, Moses Simon and Zaidu Sanusi.
All three were part of the Super Eagles squad that reached the final of the AFCON 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where they lost to the hosts in February.
Since the AFCON, Player of the Tournament Troost-Ekong has been out of action after undergoing surgery on his thigh.
Gusau has been pictured with the 30-year-old PAOK Salonika centre-back in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Troost-Ekong was initially expected to miss the rest of the season but there is fresh hope that he could still feature before the end of the current campaign.
Gusau has also been to France to see Nantes winger Simon, who sustained a fracture in his leg during the Super Eagles friendly against Mali in March.
Simon has also undergone surgery and been ruled out for the rest of the season, including Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifying matches in June.
Sanusi received Gusau in Portugal after the FC Porto left-back suffered a cruciate ligament injury.
The 26-year-old sustained the injury playing for Porto barely a week after the AFCON 2023 final and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
