ERLING Haaland scored four goals tonight as Manchester City defeated Wolves 5-1 to close the gap on Arsenal in the English Premier League title race, just about the same time Real Madrid were confirmed as LaLiga champions.

Norway striker Haaland struck twice from the penalty spot and added two more from open play to take his tally in the Premier League this season to 25, five more than any other player.

Julian Alvarez, who replaced Haaland in the second half, netted late to complete the rout, after Hwang Hee-chan had temporarily brought the score to 3-1 with a goal for the visiting Wolves.

With the result, champions Manchester City moved to within one point of leaders Arsenal, who have played one game more.

In Spain, Girona came from behind twice to beat Barcelona 4-2, with Portu netting twice.

The result took Girona past Barcelona into second spot in the table and, more importantly, confirmed Real Madrid as champions.

With four matches to go, Real Madrid, who best Cadiz 3-0 earlier today, have an unassailable 13-point lead over Girona, meaning Carlo Ancelotti’s side can no longer be caught.

It is the 36th LaLiga title for Real Madrid, who are also in the hunt for a record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League trophy.
