THE hospitality division of Transnational Corporation (Transcorp Group) under the leadership of banking mogul Tony Elumelu, Transcorp Hotels, recently announced a bold $200 million investment strategy at its 10th Annual General Meeting in Abuja.

The plan involves constructing a luxurious 20-story, 315-room hotel on Glover Road in the high-end Ikoyi area of Lagos, a major development in Nigeria’s hospitality sector.

This ambitious project aligns with the company’s goal to tap into the expanding global luxury hotel market, projected to grow from $107.77 billion in 2024 to $157.59 billion by 2029.

Despite facing challenges that caused delays, the hotel project has now commenced after overcoming complex issues.

Initially, the hotel was meant to offer conference facilities, meeting rooms, gym, spa, swimming pool and an iconic design which Transcorp argues will add verve to the Lagos landscape.

However, the hotel promoters said the project required more land in order to construct a multi-use structure ‘Twin Tower’ that will feature the hotel as well as office space.

Dupe Olusola, the Managing Director and CEO of Transcorp Hotels, highlighted the expansion of the Lagos hotel project, emphasizing its transformation into a luxurious five-star hotel offering accommodation, event spaces, restaurants, and fitness facilities.

The addition of a 21-story office block, estimated at $110 million in construction costs, further enhances the project’s scope.

The company’s strategic vision aims to elevate Nigeria as a premier destination for business and leisure travelers through this significant investment, reinforcing their leading position in the industry.

The forthcoming infrastructure, with 315 meticulously designed rooms, is set to open in 2027, promising a new benchmark in hospitality excellence.

Transcorp Hotels currently derives 90% of its revenue from the Transcorp Hilton Abuja property, in partnership with Hilton Hotels & Resorts.

The new Transcorp Hilton Lagos will showcase locally-inspired design, sustainability features, various guest rooms, meeting spaces, a spa, pool, fitness center, multiple dining options, and ample parking.

The environmentally conscious design of the Lagos hotel incorporates energy-efficient elements such as a green roof system, stormwater collection, solar water heaters, and photovoltaic technologies.

This expansion into Lagos signifies a strategic move to diversify revenue streams and strengthen the company’s presence in the hospitality sector.

Financing options including equity and debt will be considered for the Lagos hotel project, as confirmed by Dupe Olusola.
