SUPER Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was in full-time action tonight for Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final but he could not help his side win the trophy.
Dusan Vlahovic struck the only goal of the tight encounter to give Juventus a 1-0 victory and their 15th Coppa Italia trophy.
With Gianluca Scamacca suspended, Nigeria international Lookman partnered Charles De Ketelaere in the Atalanta attack but despite their dominance in possession they were not able to breach the Juventus defence.
It took Juventus just four minutes to break the deadlock, as Berat Djimsiti kept Vlahovic onside from an Andrea Cambiaso through ball, the Serbia striker held off Isak Hien and fired past the on-rushing Marco Carnesecchi.
Atalanta struggled to break down the Juventus defence as efforts from Lookman and Mario Pasalic were blocked off.
De Ketelaere then scuffed an effort off target from the edge of the area to waste a promising opportunity, and another Pasalic strike inside the Juventus penalty box was blocked.
Lookman was Atalanta’s brightest attacking presence and his strike was deflected just wide for a corner early in the second half.
The Super Eagles forward was involved again as Atalanta nearly equalised 10 minutes from time.
He cut inside past his marker and unleashed a low shot that hit the base of the near post from the edge of the Juventus box.
Juventus held on to win their 15th Coppa Italia and Atalanta will have another shot at silverware next week when they face Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final in Dublin, Ireland.
