FORMER Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has expressed his intention to continue vying for presidency as long as he is in good health.
He noted that his inspiration, comes from the perseverance of former American President, Abraham Lincoln, who faced numerous election setbacks before eventually winning the presidency.
During an interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America in Abuja, Atiku affirmed his resolve to keep contesting for the presidency as long as he remains physically fit and alive.
Despite being the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, he faced defeat to former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 and incumbent President Bola Tinubu in 2023.
At 77 years old, Atiku, who previously served as vice president from 1999 to 2007, will be 81 by the time of the next presidential election in 2027.
Despite his age, he remains committed to pursuing the presidency.
Acknowledging the importance of support and alliances, Atiku emphasized the need for collaboration with other parties to secure victory, given the current state of the PDP.
He also indicated his willingness to support a candidate from the South-East, like Peter Obi, if the PDP decides to zone the presidential ticket to that region in 2027.
Regarding his meeting with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku described it as a normal friendly interaction common among opposition party members.
He hinted at the possibility of a merger between opposition parties to achieve shared objectives for the benefit of Nigeria’s democracy and the country’s interests.
