BARELY four days after the brutal killing of fifteen fishermen in the Tumbun Rogo community, the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have issued a warning to the residents of Kukawa LGA, instructing them to leave their communities or face fatal consequences at the hands of the terror group.

This was revealed by  a resident, who fled to Maiduguri just three hours after receiving the threatening notice.

Recounting his ordeal, the resident, who chose to remain anonymous, explained that the terrorists had assembled residents from various communities in the LGA early yesterday, directing them to evacuate their homes before Saturday, or risk being targeted for death.

Following the terrorist threat, communities immediately began relocating, with some heading to Kross Kauwa and others relocating to Monguno.

Kukawa LGA, situated around Lake Chad, is renowned for fishing, farming, and various agricultural activities. Surrounded by Lake Chad, the area is also under the protection of troops from the Nigerian Army and Navy.

Despite being displaced during the insurgency, some communities like Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kukawa community, and Tumbun Rogo were resettled under the administration of Professor Babagana Zulum.

Despite the efforts to restore peace and stability to the region, the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists persist in attacking the communities due to the area’s economic significance to the terrorists. They exploit the fishing and farming activities for sustenance and financial support.
