ONE person died as a result of an incident involving youths and local vigilantes in the Egbeda community in Rivers State’s Emohua LGA.

The incident which happened yesterday is thought to have begun when several youths in the community protested against the guy holding the post of Community Liaison Officer (CLO).

Information gathered reveals that the Divisional Police Officer from Rumuji addressed the audience before they departed the protest site. However, the local vigilante leader is said to have encountered the demonstrators at a different place.

While the details are unclear, eyewitnesses report that the local vigilante ONELGA Security Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) fired some gunshots into the air, killing one Innocent Didia, an Egbeda resident, allegedly by Murphy, the OSPAC leader.

In response for the fatal shooting, furious youths set fire to Murphy’s car and burned his home.

Police Public Relations Officer Grace Iringe-Koko verified the incident, saying that nine persons have been arrested while Murphy remains at large.

The Chairman of Emohua LGA, Chidi Lloyd, has yet to remark on the matter, however recordings appear to show several youths burning houses and vehicles in the village.
