Victor Osimhen’s Napoli appoint Antonio Conte as new manager

IF Victor Osimhen stays at Napoli for next season, the Super Eagles of Nigeria striker will play under Antonio Conte as his manager.

The 2022/2023 Serie A champions confirmed Conte as their head coach today after a forgettable campaign.

“SSC Napoli is delighted to welcome Antonio Conte to the club as first-team coach, with the Italian penning a contract that runs until 30 June 2027,” the club announced on their official website today.

Conte, 54, is a much-travelled coach who has won league titles in Italy and England with Juventus (thrice), Inter Milan and Chelsea.

The fiery former Italy midfielder has also handled Bari, Atalanta, Siena and Tottenham Hotspur during a coaching career spanning almost two decades.

“I’m so proud that Antonio Conte is Napoli’s new coach,” Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said.

“Antonio is a top coach and a leader, so I’m convinced that we’ll be able to rebuild the foundations in the way that we need to following the conclusion of the cycle that led us to Scudetto glory last year after many years at the top of Italian football. An important, new chapter in Napoli’s history gets under way today.”

Conte said he was ‘excited’ to be joining Napoli, who had three different managers last season as they finished a lowly 10th in Serie A.

“Napoli is a club of huge importance on the international stage,” he said.

“I’m happy and excited by the idea of taking my seat in the Napoli dugout. I can certainly promise one thing: I’ll give my all to develop the team and the club. I’m fully committed to the task at hand, as are my staff.”
