CARLOS Alcaraz won the French Open title in Paris today by edging past Alexander Zverev in five sets in a close-fought final.

The third seed from Spain won 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 on the Roland Garros clay for his his first-ever French Open men’s singles crown.

With the victory, the 21-year-old Alcaraz became the youngest man to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces, having already secured US Open and Wimbledon triumphs on hard court and grass respectively.

Upon securing the match point, Alcaraz instantly fell on to his back – in a celebration like his fellow Spaniard, the legendary Rafael Nadal.

Fourth seed Zverev, who was in the hunt for his first Grand Slam title, presented a tough opponent for Alcaraz after a 12-match winning streak on the clay surface.

But the 27-year-old German’s wait for a major title continues after his second defeat in a Grand Slam final.

Alcaraz is the seventh player in tennis history, and the youngest, to win a Grand Slam on all three surfaces.

He has also won all his Grand Slam titles in his first appearance in their finals: US Open in 2022, Wimbledon in 2023 and the French Open today.
