Federation Cup: MKO Abiola Stadium to host men’s, women’s finals

THE finals of this year’s President Federation Cup for men and women will be held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Saturday, June 29, the Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, said that the date has been agreed by both the governing body and GTI as Nigeria has until midnight of Sunday, June 30 to submit to the Confederation of African Football the names of the country’s representatives in next season’s continental club competitions.

“Having looked closely at our programmes, the stage the men and women competitions are at the moment and the need to submit the names of all our representative clubs to CAF for African Club Competitions next season, ourselves and GTI have reached a consensus for the grand finale of the men and women finals of the President Federation Cup to take place on Saturday, 29th June,” Sanusi explained.

“The venue is the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. The women’s final will begin at 1pm while the men’s final will commence at 4pm, as has been the tradition for so many years now. NFF and GTI are committed to putting up a great show of this year’s grand finale.”

Meanwhile, the quarter-finals of the women’s competition will take place on Wednesday, with Benin City, Asaba and Enugu as host centres.

The semi-finals of the men’s competition will be played on Thursday, with Abuja and Lafia as host centres.

Nasarawa Amazons will face Remo Stars Ladies at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City in one of the quarter-finals of the women’s competition, while Delta Queens will battle Sunshine Queens in the same venue.

FC Robo Queens of Lagos and Naija Ratels of Abuja will clash in Asaba, with
the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu to host Osun Babes versus Rivers Angels.

In the men’s semi-finals, Abia Warriors will take on former Cup winners Kano Pillars at the Lafia City Stadium on Thursday, as Nigeria Premier Football League newcomers El-Kanemi Warriors will battle Kebbi United at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project on the same day.
