THE Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has stated that the state is quiet and safe, despite recent security concerns about local government management.

He made the remark during a visit to Omuma Local Government Area, where two security personnel were slain in the political turmoil.

The governor came there to assess the progress of the 14.6-kilometer Omodu-Eberi road project.

According to him, the state is not under siege, despite tales of protests and police takeovers of council secretariats.

During his visit, the governor was greeted by ecstatic citizens and led by Caretaker Committee Chairman Promise Reginald.

The governor’s assurance of peace and safety comes on the heels of a directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to maintain the police barricade on local government secretariats in Rivers State to avert a breakdown in law and order.

IGP Egbetokun issued the directive while answering questions from journalists in Abuja on the sidelines of a session with Police Commissioners and other senior officers.

He stated that the police will continue to hold the secretariats till a court of competent jurisdiction rules on the local government issue in Rivers State.
