THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been thrown into mourning following the death of former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon star Landry Nguemo at the age of 38.
Nguemo was killed in a car crash on Thursday in Obala, Cameroon.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) is saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Cameroonian International, Landry Nguemo,” the continental ruling body stated today.
“The 38-year-old, who played for Celtic and Bordeaux amongst other clubs, tragically lost his life in a traffic accident on Thursday, 27 June 2024.
“CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe conveys heartfelt condolences to the family of Landry Nguemo, Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), as well as the entire Cameroon Football Family.
“May Landry Nguemo soul rest in eternal peace.”
Nguemo, a defensive midfielder, played for Cameroon between 2006 and 2014, making 42 appearances for his national team and being a member of the squad that reached the Africa Cup of Nations final in Ghana in 2008.
He won the French League Cup with AS Nancy-Lorraine in 2006 and the Coupe de France with Bordeaux in 2014. He was also a Scottish Premiership runner-up with Celtic in 2010.
