SPAIN survived an early scare tonight in Cologne to cruise past Georgia 4-1 in their Euro 2024 European Championship round of 16 clash.

The 2008 and 2012 champions produced a brilliant second half display to ease into the quarter-finals, where they will battle hosts Germany in a clash of heavyweights.

Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo struck to earn Spain the big win after they went behind against the run of play.

Spain centre-back Robin Le Normand gifted Georgia the opener with an own goal in the 18th minute.

Spain had almost total dominance from kick-off and they were back level six minutes before half-time, Manchester City midfielder Rodri curling home a fine effort from distance.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz headed Spain in front six minutes after the break, with teenage sensation Lamine Yamal providing the assist with a delicious cross.

With the effort, 16-year-old Barcelona forward Yamal became the youngest player ever to register two assists at the European Championship.

Athletic Bilbao winger Williams made it 3-1 with a brilliant solo run and goal in the 75th minute and Olmo sealed the win seven minutes from time.

Spain will face Germany in Stuttgart on Friday in a high-profile quarter-final clash.
