THE Netherlands produced a late comeback in Berlin tonight to beat Turkey 2-1 and proceed to the semi-finals of the Euro 2024 European Championship in Germany.

The 1988 champions fell behind in the first half to the spirited Turkish underdogs but turned the encounter around with two goals in the final 20 minutes.

Samet Akaydin gave Turkey the lead 10 minutes from half-time, heading home a delicious cross from the brilliant Arda Guler.

The Netherlands equalised in the 70th minute when Stefan de Vrij powerfully headed in another fine cross from Memphis Depay.

The winner was a fortunate one for the Netherlands as Mert Muldur slid the ball into his own net after a low cross from Denzel Dumfries and under pressure from Cody Gakpo.

Turkey came close to pulling level twice but were thwarted by the Netherlands goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen as the Dutch reached their first European Championship semi-final since 2004.

With Turkey not able to equalise late on, the match became the only quarter-final at Euro 2024 not to go to extra-time.

The Netherlands will face England in the semi-finals on Wednesday in Dortmund.
