On Wednesday, Mufutau Kodri, 22, a bus conductor, appeared before the Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State accused of attempting to rape an 18-year-old girl.
Kodri, whose address is unknown, is accused of attempted rape and breach of peace.
At the trial, the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Akpan Ikem, stated that the defendant committed the offence on Sept.25, at about 7 p.m. at Marine GRA, Badagry, Lagos State.
The defendant allegedly dragged the girl into a nearby bush and attempted to rape her.
The prosecutor said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to him, the offence violated sections 262 and 168 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State government, Adekomaiya said.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until October 25 for mention.
