COVID-19: 18 deaths recorded as number of cases hits 200, 000

On Tuesday night, on Facebook, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the statistics on COVID-19 cases reported in the country. According to the statistics provided, the Centre noted that the nation’s death toll has increased to 2,637 as a result of an additional 18 deaths recorded.

The total number of infections has now climbed to 200, 057.

It reported that the total number of cases reported on Tuesday stands at 519, a result collated from 14 states across the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory. The data produced by NCDC also show that 8,701 people are currently infected with the virus in Nigeria. It also added that 188,719 people have been discharged from the various isolation centres across the country.

In the breakdown provided by the NCDC, Lagos and Ondo state was at the top of the list with 120 and 110 new cases. They are followed by Rives and Edo states, which recorded 74 and 64 cases, and the FCT came fifth on the top 5 chart with 58 new cases.

Oyo state recorded 31 new cases, Kaduna, 15; Bayelsa, 11 while Cross River and Delta States, both South-southern states, submitted 11 cases each.

Other states with new cases are Kano, Ogun, Plateau, Adamawa and Gombe, with 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 case.

The NCDC also added that the new cases included a backlog of 110 cases and 5 deaths reported by Ondo State on September 13 and 14, 2021.
