An opponent of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for many years, former minister Femi Fani-Kayode has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Years ago, the former aviation minister swore he would rather die than join ‘a filthy, rat-infested sinking ship’ like the APC.
However, his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was announced on Thursday, September 16, 2021, when he met Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
At the Presidential Villa, the governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, presented him to Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired).

FFK joined the ruling party months after romancing with APC governors and defending some of the government’s policies.
“Today at the State House, Abuja: Somebody has come and joined the APC. And a large-hearted and magnanimous President received him. Because that’s the essential Buhari for you,” a presidential aide, Tolu Ogunlesi, posted on Facebook, attaching pictures of FFK and his boss.
According to the former PDP chieftain, his decision to join the ruling party was prompted by “the spirit of God” and that he would help build unity in the country.
In addition, he claimed to have been instrumental in the defection of some PDP governors and hinted that more opposition governors were being courted.
The governors he mentioned were Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Ben Ayade of Cross River State and Bello Matawale of Zamfara State.
Furthermore, he said he was courting the governors of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Oyo State, Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, to join the ruling party.
