Hon Setonji David, a member of the Lagos State House Assembly has stated that the Lagos State will continue with the implementation of its recently regulated Value-Added Tax legislation (VAT) despite a stay execution from the Appeal Court in Abuja.

The Badagry II Constituency legislator said this in an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily breakfast show, adding that the promulgation of the VAT bill followed due process.

He said that Lagos had always called for true federalism and would continue to implement the VAT law while awaiting any new order from the Appeal court.

Meanwhile, the senior special assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Ajuri Ngelale, said that the arguments against the VAT collection had been strongly politicised before the 2023 elections.

“Some of the utterances, unfortunately, that have come from Rivers State along ethnic lines and political posturing ahead of the next election.”

Ajuri, made this statement when he also appeared as a guest of the breakfast program.

He said that the federal government contributes to the generation of VAT in the country, adding that Rivers, Lagos and other states do not generate VAT alone.
