The Lagos State Government has expressed sorrow at the passing of Late Reverend Wilson Badejo, the former General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church of Nigeria, who died on August 7, 2021.

During a condolence visit to the Church’s headquarters, Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu described Badejo as a distinguished man of God, a great achiever, role model, and accomplished teacher of the word of God who lived a life of unparalleled humility and served the State Government meritoriously as Chairman of the Lagos State Christian Welfare Board between 2001 and 2007.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, said the late Reverend was a strong pillar in the Christian community who contributed greatly to religious concord in the state via his socio-cultural disposition.

During his time as the General Overseer of Four Square Gospel Church Nigeria, Badejo dedicated his life to the extension of God’s kingdom, which manifested itself in the planting of thousands of churches.

Sanwo-Olu, prayed for the late Badejo’s soul to rest in peace, and also urged the widow, Mrs Oluyinka Badejo, to remain strong because her husband had left a fine legacy and had inspired so many people both at home and abroad.

Mrs Badejo while responding thanked the governor’s entourage for the gesture made by the Lagos State Government throughout the Reverend’s lifetime, stating that it was a privilege for her late husband to have served the State.

Earlier, while receiving the delegation, the Foursquare Church’s National Secretary, Rev. Yomi Oyinloye, commended the state governor and assured that the Foursquare Church would continue to cooperate and partner with the state government in all areas, while also praising the Sanwo-Olu administration’s giant strides in providing a better life for state residents.

In the same light, the current General Overseer of the church, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, backed by members of the funeral planning committee, Rev. Adedimeji Adegbesan, revealed that the sequence of events would be dubbed “Wilson Badejo Coronation: Chosen, Called, Crowned.”

He stated that the activities would be live on various media and digital platforms adding that the late Badejo was a hero of faith with exceptional accomplishments in the service of God and humanity.

According to him, Badejo actively redefined the Foursquare Gospel Church as a great achiever, an accomplished servant of God, a role model, and a bridge-builder on a national and international scale.

“Dr Badejo’s leadership effect in the body of Christ exceeds Nigeria,” he says. A leader that is both realistic and visionary.

“Our departed and dearly beloved father in the Lord was instrumental to many positive developments in the Foursquare Organisation: he was one of the pillars God used to lay a solid foundation for the development of the National Headquarters Church, Yaba (World Mission Centre) as well as the visioner of Mcpherson University located and operating at Seriki Sotayo, near our Ajebo Camp, Ogun State.”

Badejo served the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria in a variety of roles, culminating in his stewardship as the Church’s General Overseer from 1999 to 2009.
