Sir Victor Uwaifo, legendary singer and guitarist, has passed away.
According to a source close to the family, this was confirmed today to THE NATION, on Saturday.
He died after a brief illness, according to the source.
‘Guitar boy’, as he was affectionately known, celebrated his 80th birthday in March.
Sir Victor Uwaifo was the first Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria.
Uwaifo is also the first professional musician to be awarded the National Merit Honours of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).
