Desmond Okoroafor, a resident of Aboru in the Ipaja area of Lagos has been arrested for the alleged kidnapping of his neighbor’s eight-year-old son, Daniel Chukwudi.

Okoroafor, 21, was apprehended alongside one Egwuonwu Iyke, with whom he reportedly conspired to kidnap the boy.

As reported, the two men contacted the victim’s family and requested N2.5 million in ransom from their hiding place, in Ajangbadi area of the Lagos state.

Upon the victim’s parents reporting the abduction, which took place on July 11, 2021, the State Intelligence Bureau operatives went after the suspects.

According to the Police Spokesperson, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, Okoroafor exploited the access he had to the family to lure the victim from home to Ajangbadi, where he was held captive for six days.

He said, “The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two male suspects, Desmond Ikechukwu Okafor, 21 and Egwuonwu Gift Iyke, 34, who conspired and kidnapped an eight-year-old child, Daniel Chukwudi, on July 11, 2021.

“The kidnap was planned and executed by the victim’s neighbor, Desmond Okechukwu Okorafor.

“Twenty-four hours after the evil act, the suspects contacted the victim’s parents and demanded N2.5m ransom as a condition for his release, or else they would kill him.”

Upon receiving a report from the distraught parents, operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau began a thorough investigation, which led to the arrest of the two suspects in their criminal hideout.

Ajisebutu said that Hakeem Odumosu, the police commissioner, had ordered the suspects to be charged.
