Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tokunbo Idowu, better known as TBoss, has disclosed that despite the celebration mood all over Nigeria as the country marks its 61st independence since colonial rule, there is ‘really nothing to celebrate about the country that is supposed to be the Giant of Africa.
The single mother of one took to her verified Instagram page, shared some lovely photos and captioned, “I would say Happy Independence Day but come on- Who are we kidding? There’s Nothing Happy about the current state of our once-beloved country.
It is bad. Growing up, Tata would take us all around the country- driving. Educating us, speaking to us about the various tribes and their cultures, he could speak Fluent Igbo, Yoruba, Ishan, a little bit of Hausa, English and fluent Romanian. He was so proud of Nigeria & showed us why.
I used to feel like a peacock on This Day when we were in school in Romania. The Nigerians would dress up in our native attires, do our hair and just show off. But now? I ain’t bringing out my Nigerian passport once I pass our immigration- I’ll tell you that.”
She added: “It’s so sad. It breaks my heart- The insecurity- the amenities – we can’t travel by road anymore, let alone go to some places that were once considered Heaven.
I want to say I pray for a better tomorrow for this country, but I feel like I’m setting myself up for a mega disappointment.
God help us. That’s the prayers, but it starts with us- let’s be kind to one another for starters and know that Greed- would eventually get us Nowhere.”
