THE Super Falcons of Nigeria have kept their position in the latest FIFA women’s ranking, while the United States of America returned to the top of the pile after winning gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Despite losing all their matches at the Olympics to Brazil, Spain and Japan, the Super Falcons have remained in the 36th spot globally and No.1 in Africa.

Indeed, the nine-time African champions gained ranking points, going from 1,616 in June to 1,621 now.

The Super Falcons are still comfortably ahead of the other African teams, with the No.2 team on the continent, South Africa, 50th in the world, followed by Morocco (59th), Zambia (62nd) and Ghana (66th).

Globally, USA rose four places to No.1, following their fifth Olympic gold medal, 12 months after being ousted from the top of the ranking,

England moved up one spot to No.2, at the expense of Spain, who fell from first position to third after seeing their bid for Olympic glory ended with defeat to Brazil in the semi-finals.

Germany, who won bronze in Paris, hold on to fourth spot, with Sweden completing the top five.
