TROOPS from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested two suspected kidnappers in the Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, conducted on September 16, 2024, also resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a significant amount of ammunition.
In a statement, Capt. Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, mentioned that the troops acted on intelligence, leading to a targeted operation against the criminal syndicate.
This syndicate has been under military surveillance due to its involvement in numerous crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal arms trafficking.
The statement identified one of the arrested individuals, Ali Tambaya from Wanzani village, as a prominent member of the syndicate, found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 42 rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition.
During preliminary questioning, Ali Tambaya admitted to purchasing the rifle from one Alhaji Dandi for N500,000 about five years ago, and he acquired the ammunition at a cost of N1,000 each. He also stated that Alhaji Kiwo had given him 38 of the 42 rounds for safekeeping.
Troops promptly pursued the other suspects and successfully apprehended Alhaji Dandi, while efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest Alhaji Kiwo.
The statement concluded by commending the troops for their efforts and reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements in Taraba State to ensure peace and stability for all citizens.
It urged the public to continue providing timely and accurate information to security forces, emphasizing the essential partnership between the military and civilian populations in achieving lasting peace.
