THE Nigerian Police Force has achieved a major milestone in its efforts to prevent electoral violence in Edo State by apprehending two suspected political thugs.

In a statement released today by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja, the suspects identified as 43-year-old Edwin Obanor and 41-year-old Audu Tajudeen, an alleged member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo.

Adejobi explained that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off regarding individuals armed with intentions to incite chaos during today’s election. Police operatives swiftly acted, capturing Obanor, identified as a leader of an armed group, at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 p.m., along with Tajudeen in Igara Akoko, Edo, on the eve of the election.

Upon inspecting their bags, officers found three cut-to-size locally made pistols in Obanor’s possession, while Tajudeen had one locally fabricated gun.

The statement emphasized, “These arrests demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The police and other security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorder during the election in Edo State.”

According to police statements both suspects are currently in custody and will face the full repercussions of the law.

The police also reassured the public of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through established helplines.
