REMO Stars kept their 100 percent start to the Nigeria Premier Football League campaign by beating Kano Pillars 2-0 in Katsina on Sunday.
The victory for Remo Stars was one of two away in the NPFL on Sunday. The two games on Saturday also ended in away wins and, remarkably, there were no home victories in the seven marches.
Super Eagles defender Sodiq Ismail opened the scoring in the 26th minute at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, and Franck Mawuena doubled Remo Stars’ lead on the hour mark as they secured their third win in as many matches and handed Pillars their first defeat.
Remo Stars, who crashed out of the CAF Champions League this season in the first preliminary round, are top of the NPFL table, overtaking Rivers United.
Niger Tornadoes recorded a 2-1 victory against Plateau United at the Jos Stadium on Sunday for their second win in three matches this season.
Ifeanyi Okechukwu and Kufre Ebong netted for the visitors, while Sam Pam pulled one back for the hosts.
Heartland continued their struggles on Sunday under former Super Eagles star Emmanuel Amuneke this season, as they were forced to a 0-0 draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri by Katsina United.
Heartland are yet to win in the league this season despite raised expectations following the arrival of the legendary Amuneke, who has worked as coach with the Golden Eaglets, the Flying Eagles and the Super Eagles.
In Akure, Sunshine Stars made it two matches without a win as they played out a 0-0 draw against Abia Warriors at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
Newly promoted Ikorodu City earned their first point of the season in a 0-0 encounter in Ilorin against Kwara United.
