NPL 2024: Final three to be honoured by Port Harcourt Book Fest, Sept 28

THE three finalists in the 2024 Nigeria Prize for Literature, NPL, will be honoured in Port Harcourt on Saturday, September 28 by the Port Harcourt book Fest, led by writer, literary activist, Koko Kalango.

Highlights of the event are: reviews, drama, dance, poetry, prizes, wining and dining.

The invitational event holds at an undisclosed venue, but will also be streamed live on YouTube – NigeriaLNGLimited; Facebook, The Nigeria Prize for Literature; and on Instagram at nlngprizes.

The honoured authors are Uchechukwu Peter Umerurike, Wish Maker; Ndidi Chiazor-Enenmor, A Father’s Pride; and Olubunmi Familoni, The Road Does Not End.

To feature red carpet interviews and a dinner, the event will provide guests with “the opportunity to interact with the writers and network, in a celebratory atmosphere,” stated the organisers.

“The 300 guests invited to this event include students, literary figures, civil society and NGO personal, business leaders, pop culture stars, government officials, and media representatives.”

Supported by the Rainbow Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting reading and literacy across Nigeria, and whose work helped Port Harcourt earn the title of UNESCO World Book Capital in 2014.

Book Fest, not only celebrate the shortlisted authors but also “underscores the city’s rich literary heritage and vibrant culture. It promises to be a memorable celebration of Nigerian literature and excellence,” stated the organisers in a statement.

“The NPL 2024 is particularly special as it commemorates four significant milestones:

  • 10 years since Port Harcourt was recognized by UNESCO as the World Book Capital
  • 20 years since the Nigeria Prize for Literature was initiated
  • 25 years since Nigeria LNG began operations
  • 35 years since Nigeria LNG was incorporated

Sponsored by Nigeria LNG, the Nigeria Prize for Literature is awarded to a Nigerian author for outstanding work in prose, poetry, drama, or children’s literature (rotated annually).
