CHELSEA centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo has not made a formal move to switch allegiance to Nigeria from England despite reports of his intention to play for the Super Eagles.
Adarabioyo was recently reported to have expressed an interest to play for the Super Eagles after featuring for England at age-grade levels.
The 27-year-old was born in England to Nigerian parents and is eligible to represent the Super Eagles despite featuring for England at U-16 to U-19 levels.
He is yet to make any senior appearance for the Three Lions which makes the Manchester-raised star able to have Nigeria as an option.
According to ESPN Africa, a source in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed that the former Manchester City centre-back turned down an initial approach to switch his allegiance to Nigeria.
“Jose Peseiro travelled to meet with him in the UK last year to speak to him about playing for Nigeria, but he told the coach at that time that he was not ready,” the outlet wrote on Monday.
“If he wants to make the switch now he knows what to do.”
Switching allegiance by any footballer begins with approaching FIFA which would either accept or reject the bid based on its eligibility rules.
Interestingly, Adarabioyo has often been seen on social media donning both current and throwback Super Eagles shirts, proudly displaying his Nigerian heritage.
Among a long list of players who switched allegiances to play for the Super Eagles include Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, William Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina.
