THE Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has directed a response to the attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State.
Yesterday night assault by Boko Haram militants resulted in the deaths of two police officers and left another critically injured as the terrorists exchanged fire with officers on duty.
The attackers were ultimately repelled with the assistance of the civilian joint task force stationed nearby.
The incident, which occurred around 12:10 AM, was detailed in a statement released today by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, who identified the deceased officers as Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.
He said: “In response to the recent explosion attack at Nganzai, Egbetokun condemned the assault and ordered a swift and comprehensive crackdown on those responsible, stating, “Any cop-killers will not go unpunished.”
“He also expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them that their sacrifices would not be forgotten and that their benefits and entitlements would be prioritized for immediate payment.
The statement continued, “The IGP has instructed Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc., to mobilize sufficient resources and personnel, working alongside other security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and face the full force of the law.”
As investigations proceed, the IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to holding accountable those who threaten the security and safety of Nigeria.
