TARABA: Troops raid bandits hideout, one killed, 23 surrendered

TROOPS of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have cracked down on a notorious bandit camp in Angwan Bala, Kambari village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation, which took place yesterday, resulted in the killing of a suspected bandit while 23 others, including 19 males and four females, surrendered without further resistance.

The raid followed intelligence reports on the movement of suspected bandits in the area. Upon arrival at the hideout, the troops were met with gunfire, prompting an immediate and overwhelming response.

The Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations Captain Olubodunde Oni revealed in a state that during a search of camp, the soldiers recovered four AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 magazines, 80 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one English-made pistol, two locally made guns, 28 cutlasses, 16 motorcycles, 48 daggers, and jackknives.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the bandits, originally from Plateau State, had paid ₦1,500,000 to a local chief in Amar village of Karim Lamido LGA to acquire land and establish their hideout.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring security and stability in Taraba State.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that community cooperation is crucial in the fight against banditry.

“This operation is a testament to our resolve to eliminate criminal elements, restore lasting peace, and ensure that Taraba State does not become a safe haven for terrorists. We will continue to work tirelessly with relevant stakeholders to sustain the fight against insecurity,” General Uwa stated.
